I went through the same problem with my Marlin #18. I tried everywhere, and nothing. Finally used what was left of the old one and made one. after all this time, I found a BRAND NEW fireing pin for a model 20, which is exactly the same as the #18.....The one I made works perfectly, but the original is more desired. And the new one cost me $49.00.Hello-. Just got back from the range with my 39a golden (circa 1985). I was having about a 1 out of 10 misfire ratio. I was using Federal copperplated hollow points. The firing pin was striking the same spot consistently, but it seemed to be not striking close enough to the rim. Some times it will fire several shots OK but for the most part misfires are more often than not. Looking at the bases of the unfired rounds shows no sign of the firing pin striking.

I was having a lot of the same issues with mine. My grandfather and I straightened it very carefully with a hammer. I also cleaned it up with some very fine emery cloth.
